Preschool Story Time will be held at 9:30 a.m. at the Oakboro Library. The theme for this week’s program is “Apples, Apples, Apples.”
Matthews Playhouse will present the play, Junie B. Jones is Not a Crook, October 13-22. Show dates and times are: Friday October 20 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday October 21 and Sunday October 22 at 2 p.m. Ticket prices are $13 for adults and $11 for students and seniors. The Charlotte Hornets home opener will be held at 7 p.m. at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte. The Hornets will take on the Atlanta Hawks. All attendees will receive a Buzz City Alive graphic t-shirt in celebration of opening night.

Thursday, October 26
Bouncing Babies Story Time will be held at 11 a.m. at the Albemarle Main Library. The 20 minute program features stories, songs and rhymes for babies birth through 24 months.
The Downtown Albemarle Fall Festival will be held from 4-6 p.m.
Madelyn’s Book Belles will host their Fall Book Sale Thursday, October 26 through Saturday, October 28 at the West Stanly Senior Center in Locust. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday and Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. There will be a $1 bag sale on Saturday. Proceeds from the sale benefit Locust Library reading programs.
Every Thursday in October, the Stanly County History Center will host a 45 minute ghost walk in downtown Albemarle led by veteran storytellers. Two of the Thursdays will be family friendly ghost walks. For more information or to register, call 704-986-3777.

Saturday, October 28
American Heritage Girls Troop 0148 will host the Stars and Stripes 5K and 1 mile Fun Run at Oakboro District Park. The Fun Run begins at 9 a.m. and the 5K begins at 9:30 a.m. There will be snow cones and face painting for kids, lots of prizes and a post-race pizza party. The 8th annual Stanfield Fall Festival will be held at Pete Henkel Park (across from Stanfield Elementary School) from 6-9 p.m. The festival promises plenty of fun for the whole family including bounce houses, games, a giant hay maze, costume contests, hay rides to a pumpkin patch, music and trunk-n-treat. Free hotdogs, drinks, hot chocolate and apple cider will be served. Festival food and activities are free.
The Charlotte Kids Fest will be held on the campus of UNC Charlotte (9100 Robert D. Snyder Road, Charlotte) from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The festival will feature building and learning activities, performing arts, book readings and science demos, super hero meet and greet, music and food vendors. The Charlotte Checkers will take on Utica at 1 p.m. at the Bojangles’ Coliseum in Charlotte. Stick around after the game for a post-game skate with the players. The cost to skate is $8 for those who bring their own skates and $10 for those who rent skates. Proceeds benefit the Checkers Charitable Foundation. The Oakboro Library will host a Pre-Halloween Family Fun Night. There will be Halloween stories and crafts from 3-5 p.m. From 5-7 p.m. there will be a SPOOKtacular event for the whole family.
Tuesday, October 31
The Locust Fall Festival will be held from 6-8 p.m. at the Locust Ball Park. The free family event will feature games, candy, inflatables, hay rides and hot dogs.
Stanly Community College will host Halloween on the Hill at the Albemarle Campus from 5-7 p.m. Students, faculty, staff, and the community are invited to this kid-friendly event. Admission is free. There will be haunted hallways with trick-or-treats in the Patterson Building, a craft area with games in the lobby of the Snyder Building and trick-or-treats in the Webb Student Center. An adult should accompany children during the event.
